The Funky Hut Restaurant

"....... all of Oh's food is great"
Brett Atkinson - Lonely Planet Guide to Thailand - 2007.

If you check out our Guest Book you will see that most of our Guests complement us on our friendly service and homely atmosphere but Oh's kitchen gets more then the others combined.

From the day we opened five years ago, every dish which comes to your table has been prepared fresh by Oh.

We offer a selection of great Thai food as well as one of the best western menus on Koh Chang.

We have lost count of how many World Famous Funky Hut Burgers we have served but remember most of the smiles and complements but have also lost count of the number of people who come back two and three times for more before they leave Koh Chang.

Our "Chef In Training" is our son Safe who is always willing to give a helping hand in the kitchen to ensure your food is done right.

A few words about our burgers

"That was not a burger, that was an exprience"
Ronald, Utrecht, Holland - Dec 4th 2007.

For three seasons on Koh Chang, Funky Hut has offered our unique “Funky Hut Burger” which has established itself as one of the best on the Island if not the World!

All our burgers start out on a home made herb bun, made here at the Funky Hut Bakery fresh every day.
All our burger patties are home-made with the freshest ingredients, to recipes developed and created by Oh.

Our burgers are a meal in themselves and come with a generous side of French fries from fresh potato and not those skinny little frozen things, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, grated carrot and mushrooms and sometimes extra fillings depending on the availability of fresh produce in the market.

The Funky Hut Naandwitch
This year we have extended our selection by adding four new creations including our meal in itself, the Funky Hut Naandwitch. Its a home made yoghurt nan stuffed with a filling of your choice. Try tuna, chicken salad, bacon, cheese or a combination of all.

We hope (know) you will enjoy!

Here is our full menu as printed and served today in our Restaurant.

Someone once told us that wherever you go on Koh Chang you could take a menu from one place and order from it at another and nobody would notice. Try that with ours!

All we do is buy our beans from Northern Thailand and Lao, grind them fresh and make the coffee in an espresso machine or in a press pot. What's so special about that? But most of our Guests still tell us we have the best coffee they have had since leaving home. Amazing.

Below are two of our specialty coffees, Amaretto Coffee at the back and Death from a Kettle at the front.

Our menu used to have many pages of views, opinions and observations about the world in general.

You can now read some of them at the Funky Hut Blog.

We are pessimists at heart.
When I watch what is happening on the news sources on the Internet I can't help but feel we are in the right place.
Oil prices rising because of geopolitical conflict, energy consumption booming because India and China want to play the catch up game and the worlds financial markets in turmoil because banks want to be greedy. In addition, while countries talk about equality and concern for human rights they base their actions on oil and greed.
Green efforts flourish all around us as individuals try to make a difference but each week China and India bring online 3 new coal fired generation plants which they say are necessary to feed the consumerism of the West.
One wrong move in Iran, Nigeria or bad weather in the Gulf of Mexico and oil will top $200.
The US Dollar is under more pressure than it has ever had to deal with and now some of that pressure has moved from the US economic performance to pure political considerations.
The UN has now declared Global Warming as irreversible.
As a kid of the 60's I'm lucky. Life has been good. I've never been called to go to war. Work was easy to find and employers were responsible and careing. Housing was affordable. I, not my employer, had choices. People were considerate.
Koh Chang for us is an adtedote to the madness outside. Please feel free to come and join us.
